A Lecture vs A Tutorial
Lectures and tutorials are the two main forms of teaching you'll come across at MIC and they differ in their structures and purposes.
What's the difference?
Lectures are your normal everyday classes that are large group sessions where the lecturer delivers content to students in a one-way style of communication. A lecture is where you will do most of your learning and note-taking as the lecturer presents on the course/module/subjects broad concepts and theories.
Tutorials are more interactive, smaller group sessions with a focus on applying the knowledge gained in lectures. Students generally do group work, have class discussions and have opportunities to ask questions about the content.
Lectures normally start in week 1 of each semester with classes each week whereas tutorials usaully begin in week 2/3 and might occur weekly or fortnightly.
Student Handbook
The Student Handbook is reviewed each year and deals primarily with academic progression through College.
